The mission of Foxfire WUI is to help build holistic and collaborative fire-adapted/resilient communities through workforce development and training. We strongly believe the best way forward in this new normal is to equip rural communities with viable pathways to building a their own wildfire industry.
The current landscape of wildfire is heavily focused on solutions driven by technology. While Foxfire fully understands the important role technology plays in the fight to reduce risk to life safety and economic loss, it subsequently sees the need for solutions that also focus on the vital role humans play in wildfire suppression, prevention and planning.
We’ve got a big job to do. We don't have enough hands on deck to even make a dent in the problem. To make matters worse, we are losing our suppression workforce.
That same workforce can be used to implement prevention projects, such as fuels management. Better cohesion and collaboration can help save the current workforce we have and create better opportunities for the future workforce.
Therefore, one of our priorities is to help build off-season opportunities for wildland firefighters through training, planning and prevention activities.
